Summertime is in full swing, and what better way to beat the heat than a classic cocktail. A pertinent summer cocktail should be both refreshing and on the lighter side of the spectrum. If you’re hankering for a white russian, by all means – but the richer class of drinks are best left to a cool night. Here are a few classics for your summer enjoyment.
- 2½ ounces cachaça
- 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons sugar
Cut lime into wedges. In a lowball glass, muddle sugar and lime, fill with ice, add cachaça and stir.

- ½ ounce lime juice
- slice of lime
- 1½ ounces tequilla
- ¾ ounce triple sec
Shake ingredients with ice until well chilled, strain into salt rimmed glass filled with ice – garnish with slice of lime.

- a few sprigs of fresh mint
- 1½ ounces lime juice
- slice of lime
- 2 ounces white rum
- 4 ounces club soda
- 2 teaspoons sugar
Muddle lime juice, sugar and mint and add to glass. Mix in rum and club soda and stir gently – garnish with slice of lime.

In shaker dissolve sugar in gin and lemon juice, fill shaker with ice and continue shaking until well chilled. Strain into glass filled with ice and top with soda water – garnish with a slice of lemon.
